Habitat. A cube inspired by the environment in which the salmon live

Only 5-10% of salmon survive at sea due to disease, parasites, predators, competition, food availability and environmental changes.

Salmon live for up to 4 years spending most of this time out at sea, they are faced with immense danger while on this journey and very few return to spawn. Their journey is fascinating and this cubes looks to capture these barriers and dangerous encounters. It is constructed from dowels of oak, walnut and ash vertically aligned to provide an environment in which to camouflage.

Salmon are affected by the water’s temperature and nutrient content, by the amount of sediment and oxygen it carries, by the rate of flow and many other factors.
