Education

Over the course of the year long project, xsite will be working to expand the educational aspect of the Tyne Salmon Trail. Local storyteller Malcolm Green and dancer Paula Turner work on a year long programme, as part of Creative Partnerships, in two of the regions schools, Marine Park in South Shields and Wylam First School. The programme is about the life cycle of the salmon, involving storytelling, dance, visits up and down the Tyne. The children learn about a sense of place and belonging in relation to the salmon and their long journey.

Creative Partnerships aims to develop the creativity of young people, raising their aspirations and achievements, also the skills of teachers and their ability to work with creative practitioners.

They work to increase the schools' approaches to culture, creativity and partnership working; and expand the skills, capacity and sustainability of the creative industries.
